The Secret Circle Episode 1 : Pilot

SUMMARY

The Pilot episode of The Secret Circle started with Cassie Blake driving home when a strange black car went past her in a rushing speed causing her lose control over her car. Calling her mom, Amelia, she told her the car broke down and will be a little late. Outside Blake's residence, the car that went pass her parked and watched. A man came out and got a bottle of water dripping as he walks towards the house. He started doing magic as he made water burst from the faucet and everywhere. Finally, he ignited a huge fire that killed Amelia.

Cassie now moves to her grandmother, Jane, in Chance Harbor, Washington. She easily got around with new faces since this was the town where her mother grew up, most people in this town recognized her as Amelia's daughter. She first met Diana Meade, a charming and a smart young girl who wants to show her around. Invited by Diana into the boathouse after school, Cassie went to stop by. She then saw the same guy who was previously taking glances at her in school when she got in. Adam introduced himself as his father, Ethan also did as her mother's former lover.

Came Faye and Melissa, whom she came across earlier as she came in. Faye is somewhat the person who Cassie doesn't want to come across with anywhere because she is really a certified bitch and a pain-in-the-ass chick. Faye doubted that Cassie knows about her true identity that she is a witch so she tried a little game called "put-out-the-fire Cassie". Faye did a spell on Cassie's car to set it on fire and tested Cassie's power and abilities. But when the fire is getting out of control and Cassie's still not doing anything, she then realized that she was wrong about her. Adam came rushing out of the boathouse and rescued her.

After the incident, Cassie kept asking Adam how it happened, how the car suddenly caught on fire and how the fire was put-off. Diana came as soon as she heard the news. This time was a little awkward for Cassie when Diana introduced Adam to her as her boyfriend. So then, came the time that Diana needed to tell Cassie who she was.
They went into the abandoned house and to her surprise Diana, Adam, Melissa, Faye and Nick, whom she saw the first day she came on the other side of her window, were there. Finally, they told her she is a witch but Cassie couldn't believe. Cassie tried to run away but Adam showed her how magic works. A magical scene started to happen which Adam felt was wonderful since their power is magnified through Cassie. They started to feel the connection but then Cassie stopped it before it goes out of hand.

Still, we can't expect a teenage girl to accept what she just new and something that is far from reality to happen. She can't get away with her destiny that she is born a witch no matter how she denies it, it will find her and puts her where she belongs. Then she wanted to give it a try after giving a thought about it but made a final note that she doesn't want any part of this. What Cassie didn't know is that she is the biggest part of the circle that they are trying to bound for them to have control over the power and energy around them.

NOTES

Each character in the pilot episode were introduced and their projected personalities that viewers could expect. What caught my attention the first time I watched this is that the mystery of the tragic boat fire mentioned as the cause of the kids' parents death 16 years ago. This is the same reason why witchcraft was abolished in Chance Harbor because people in this town believed that those who died were all witches and that they were practicing witchcraft.

Another interesting part of this episode is the collision between Faye and Cassie. Faye revealed her character here as a bitchy teenager just like any bully kid in high school because she fears nothing having her mother as the principal of the school. Faye, according to Adam, is a bit unpredictable and she often does thing recklessly. She thinks of doing magic is fun and that it could make everything she does easy. Faye wants to tag along Cassie because she knew that their magic is magnified with her around and that would give her more benefits. She's also a teaser and a fire starter. She causes a  lot of trouble and understanding between people however if things get worse, she easily falls back and feel remorseful about it.

Cassie is the center of the The Secret Circle series where she is on her quest in finding out what happened to her dad who never met and know of. In this episode, she's always curious on things specially with the witchcraft idea that was introduced to her and wanted to learn how to do simple magic.
